July 2017 saw the opening of a new Frozen Yogurt store in the UK – Swirl in Lancaster.
Ben Smith, founder of Swirl, spends much of his time in America on business. During his time there, he’s seen the rise in popularity of frozen yogurt and more noticeably that most of the stores out there use Taylor soft serve equipment to serve their frozen yogurt. So on his return to the UK, there was only one option in his mind when it came to choosing the right equipment for his new store…
“I’m based in the States the majority of the time. While I’ve been there I’ve seen Taylor machines in the vast majority of the frozen yogurt shops” commented Ben, “I contacted Taylor UK by email and received a quick response from the Area Sales Manager Simon Holdsworth”
A meeting was arranged for the next time Ben was back in Lancaster. This meeting was crucial to discuss all of the frozen yogurt machine options that are available and to decide which models and configurations would work best for the Swirl operation.
“Simon was extremely helpful, the Taylor brand was enough to have already made my mind up about which machines to buy, but Simon explained a lot about the frozen yogurt market, the different machine specifications and also where to obtain the ingredients and products for the yogurt itself. He was very impartial and thorough and I felt comfortable taking his advice” Ben added.
The Swirl frozen yogurt concept is based around self service, offering multiple flavours for customers to choose from then add any number of the different toppings available. Following the discussions with Simon, Ben opted for two of the Taylor model C723 soft serve freezers. These twin flavour machines allow the operator to choose either flavour individually or to ‘Twist’ the two together providing four individual flavours at one time. The gravity fed system keeps things simple for the staff when comes to cleaning and maintenance whilst ensuring a steady, consistent product is served by their customers.
“We decided to go down the route of a self-serve offering and on Simon’s advice we purchased two Taylor C723 frozen yogurt machines, and left space in our shop for 2 more. Since we took delivery of the machines Simon has been on hand whenever we’ve needed him, helping our Manager Debbie with any questions she has had. We’re excited for our venture and we hope it’s going to be the talk of the City!”
